British Railway Score and Penalties
The numbers behind Coin payouts—what adds score and what deletes it.
This score-and-penalties tool page lists the British Railway numbers players ask for mid-argument in Discord. It supports Drivers and Guards on Fourth Rail’s Roblox experience who want Coin clarity without rereading an entire guide. Pair with how to earn coins and the Tools Hub.
Score gains
| Event | Score effect |
|---|---|
| Successful station stop | +10 |
| Guard contribution per stop | about +2 (roughly ~20% route bonus context) |
Stops also enable role Coin hooks: Guard procedures/tickets and Passenger six Coins per stop. Driving technique that protects these ticks: how to drive.
Penalties and fails
| Mistake | Effect / note |
|---|---|
| SPAD (pass Danger) | 3 point penalty; stop was required |
| Speeding | Penalty when more than about 5 mph over |
| Skipping stations | Score damage + breaks Passenger/Guard loops |
| Ignoring AWS | Penalty path; acknowledge warnings |
Aspect meanings: signals and SPAD.
Partial payout rule
If you leave a route early and your score is above 10, you still receive a partial Coin payout. That rule saves sessions after a messy SPAD chain. It is not a reason to quit at 11 on purpose—finish clean when you can.
Coin translation (roles)
- Driver — Coins primarily from score-based route completion/payout.
- Guard — 5 Coins per stop procedure + up to 40 from tickets at 4 each, plus helping Driver score.
- Passenger — 6 Coins per stop.
- Shop / Robux — optional; see coins and shop.
- Codes — none active; Codes Hub.
How to use this sheet in a session
- Before departure, glance at penalty rows.
- After each stop, ask whether +10 actually landed.
- If a penalty hits, name it out loud (“AWS”) so you correct the habit.
- If the run is doomed but score >10, take partial payout instead of rage-zero.
- Review with a Guard using how to guard if door chaos caused rushed Danger approaches.
Route and train choice vs score
Dense locals create more +10 events; coastal Brynmouth runs create more sightseeing distraction. Choose via routes tier list and trains tier list. New v1.4 signalling/ghosting can change where penalties cluster—read version 1.4.
Controls that prevent penalties
W/S patience, A/D shaping, E only for emergencies, T/R door discipline, P/O traction correctness—controls cheatsheet and controls.
What will not raise score
Executor autofarms, fake codes, and skipping the rulebook. Risk notes: scripts. Onboarding: getting started. Community: wiki.

Worked examples
Clean local with Guard: eight stops could mean 80 base stop score plus about 16 from Guard contribution before other factors—exact UI totals vary, but the shape teaches why pairings pay. Add Guard personal Coins from procedures and tickets on top.
Solo SPAD night: two SPADs (6 points lost) plus a speeding tax can erase the emotional value of several clean stops. Partial payout still needs you above 10 if you abort—another reason early-route SPADs hurt twice.
Passenger study ride: six Coins per stop will not outpace a good Guard, yet zero SPAD risk while you memorise stations can raise tomorrow’s Driver score enough to justify the slower night.
Habit scoring
Give yourself a private grade each route: SPADs, AWS ignores, skips, max overspeed feeling, door rushes. If any box is dirty, your Coin plan should emphasise practice over shop browsing. Link habits to keys via the controls cheatsheet and to aspects via signals and SPAD.
Teaching with numbers
When crewing beginners, quote these figures once, then narrate live so they hear how Caution saves the three-point SPAD. Numbers stick when tied to a near-miss. Point them at how to earn coins after the route so economy and penalties stay connected.
Patch caveat
If Fourth Rail ever retunes weights, this sheet will update. Until then, treat the listed magnitudes as the working model used across this wiki’s guides and player pages, including version 1.4 context where signalling changes alter how often penalties appear—not necessarily the face value of each penalty.

Does speeding always penalise me?
Penalties kick in when you exceed the limit by more than about five mph.
Where should I learn to avoid these penalties?
